We are very excited to share the news that LIYANA has been selected as one of 11 finalists for the 2015 San Francisco Film Society Documentary Film Fund. See the announcement here on Indiewire. We are honored to have been chosen from hundreds of applicants as one of the most competitive.
Michele-Turnure Salleo, the director of Filmmaker360, said in a press release that, "The diversity of subjects in this group of finalists, and the creativity displayed in their approaches to visual storytelling, reflects the impressive strength of the work that was submitted this year. Not only do these projects tackle extremely relevant contemporary topics, but they also employ innovative aesthetic styles and remarkable cinematic approaches that caught the attention of the reviewers."
We could certainly use a funding boost right now as we are in the thick of postproduction and animation. But regardless, we are thrilled that the San Francisco Film Society (an organization known for choosing successful films such as CUTIE & THE BOXER and AMERICAN PROMISE) values our unique film and is interested in supporting it.
